Mullet Bay Beach, a True Sunset Cove...

Mullet Bay Beach - Famous for its grilled ribs and chicken...

A real family spot, west coast spot is one of my more frequently visited beaches. There is often quite a bit of activity both in the high and low season.

Mullet bay sits on the western shores of the island and offers almost every thing a vacationer can dream of. Its mangroves and palm trees line the area providing shade and picnic space for those who'd prefer to stay out of the sun. Huuummmm... That sounds like me...

The west coasts of the Eastern Caribbean Islands are generally calm. However, at certain times of the year mullet bay beach seems to be transformed into a surfer’s paradise. This attracts even the total novice to try this popular water sport at least once.

The beach has enough space on a regular day but if push comes to shove the old abandoned Mullet bay resort is there for you to decide where ever you want to set up shop.

Adjacent to the beach one can play a game of golf on the course still in existence today. The entire area at mullet bay offers a good mix including walking or venturing off through the old resort and over into Mullet Pond.

Mullet Pond is just a great picnic spot and possesses an excellent ambiance for picture taking. Maybe you're lucky to see the ducks and the egresses as they pass through the area.

I know... Let's get back to the beach... I just like to paint a great picture in your head before you get to the Island, and more importantly that you're well informed. Now as usual you'll get the boats from time to time anchoring in the bay for some great pictures so look out for that.

Of course if you're there for the sunset make sure you've got lots of film. Just around the corner is Maho Reef and Cupecoy beach. Cupecoy is a solitary beach that one would love for that perfect deserted location.

From this spot just like the Maho Beach, You can see the aircraft as they approach the airport. For those of you who already know, you'll need to go over to Maho Beach for a more dramatic experience with the take offs and landings. Snorkeling is also available in this area.

On the far ends of the Mullet bay beach there are quite a few rocks and caves that add to your fun. Now I especially like mullet bay for the drop off cliffs that fall straight into the water. Every individual on this Island has frequented this area. They are two spots popular for jumping.

The names are the shark hole and the whale hole. You need to do this jump. If you don’t like climbing though, you'll be swimming for a long time back to shore. There is nothing like jumping off that cliff and into the crystal clear waters of the whale hole.

Back on the beach I’ve played volleyball, dominoes and even slept as a part of the day’s activities. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available.

Let me not forget to mention Mr. York who always has his food set up just in time for you to have a great lunch on the beach. You can watch as he prepares the mouth watering BBQ ribs, chicken or fish right in front of your eyes.

For those of you interested in staying in this area, you can find enough accommodation like Maho Hotel, Sapphire Beach Club, Royal Islander and a few others.

You may get to this beach by bus. The walk from the bus stop is about five minutes.
