Shopping Saint Martin - Philipsburg: Shop till you drop...

If you've never been here before, you're about to experience an Island thrill of your life.

Philipsburg's duty free shopping attracts people from the Caribbean and the world over.

During the high season (Dec 15 - Apr 14), Philipsburg turns into a feeding frenzy of bargain hunters from the cruise ships.

Shopping Saint Martin - Various Retail Outlets...

I am always excited as I mingle in the midst of what seems to be a "get it now or never" ambiance.

You'd be amazed to learn the diversity of interest of visitors that come to these shores.

Whether you're shopping for jewelry or simply trying to stock your kitchen with groceries, St Maarten offers you a good deal for your money.

I can specifically remember one gentleman requesting direction to a local tailor so that he can get a native dress made as a souvenir for his wife.

That seemed to be a bit odd back then but just shows that people shop for a wide range of Items.

So if you've got a special question about this subject I'd be more than happy to provide that information through the contact form.

Maybe you've got a boat and were wondering how to get your main sail repaired once you've landed at one of the Islands marinas.

Relax - It's all here and I'll get the information to you.

Don't be bashful. You'll get an answer from a real person attending to your needs.

Shopping Saint Martin - Philipsburg or Marigot?...

The main shopping area on the Dutch side is the Capital Philipsburg while on the French side it's Marigot (don't pronounce the T).

The official currency on the dutch side is the Antillean Guilder and the French side the Euro. Marigot is famous for its Open air markets on Wednesday and Saturday.

It's been said that since the intro introduction of the Euro that spending on that side of the Island had become a bit steep.

On the dutch side however, even with the Antillean Guilder, seems to be a very strong dollar economy.
