Simpson bay is located on the south western section dividing the lagoon and the Caribbean sea.
It is regarded as an old fishing village inhabited by the those who came from Denmark many years ago. It has become a force to reckon with in regard to growth on the Island. This area has shown a steady increase of development and is continuing on that trend. Some of the earliest ancestors who have settled here years ago would be astonished to see the changes that have occurred here. Today Simpson bay has everything from simple grocery shopping to banking. There is no need to go down to Philipsburg in the event that you live or are planning a visit there. As it is, the only thing one needs to leave Simpson bay for is official governmental documents.
This sheik town is divided in two by the newly constructed draw bridge with one side more colloquial while the other caters mainly to our very valuable tourism product. The bridge opens numerous times daily to allow the many mega yachts that storm the island mainly during the peak tourist season that starts on 15 April till 15 December every year.
On the Lagoon itself are many marinas that lay claim to the business that thrives there during the high season.
Simpson's bay is also home to the Princess Juliana airport and not so far is the Maho Center.
While activity in philipsburg has dwindled considerably, Simpson's Bay comes alive as the sun sets. Restaurants, bars, and numerous activities barricade the entire stretch of land as business men bid for the remaining land in an effort to start up some form of business. If you're in the area, there's no need to bother about a meal. Not only dinner is served in the area. Any type of meal can be found in the area including a simple pizza or if you choose you can order tapas choices. For those of you planning on something more exciting you may want to go to one of the upscale restaurants like The stone, Pineapple Pete's, or lees road side bar and grill.
Accommodation in Simpson bay is varied and one immediately notices that the inhabitants are mixed together with the locals and tourist alike. This makes for great experiences that you will remember for the rest of your life.
Finally, don't forget the almost two mile long secret beach that stretches adjacent. This beach is a must see, since not many people frequent there and offers fantastic getaway right under your nose.
In a nutshell, Simpson bay is my favorite town. If I could afford it, That's where my dream house will be.
