As you may have already noticed, St Maarten offers a multitude of excursions for an Island as small as it is.

The mud bath excursion is one activity that stands high on that list, clocking in at about 9.5 on the richer scale. It is located on Tintamarre island.

GETTING THERE...

The only way to get there is by boat, unless you’re a very strong swimmer. There are numerous boat trips to Tintamarre Island. They range from small boats offering half day trips to catamaran full day trips. Most incorporate a snorkel trip during the day.

Many charters are on a tight schedule, while others allow the passenger the option to set the pace throughout the course of the day.

ON THE BEACH...

Depending on the time you arrive you might see some zombie like people standing on the beach as if they were waiting to greet you. That’s mud covered humans.

If one didn’t know what to expect, you’d immediately swing around your boat and be out of there in record time.

In the rainy season the pools are filled and everyone splashes away. When it’s dry, crew members skillfully select a vein of clay and mix it with salt water providing a similar experience for anyone interested in doing the mud baths.

That sets the pace for the enthusiasts. As for me, I was a bit skeptical at first until I soon realized that I was the only one watching.

The mud bath is about 100 feet inland and really accessible so I joined the rest of the pack and was transformed into something similar to that in Michael Jackson’s video clip “Thriller”.

THE BENIFITS...

Besides the excitement and ambiance that the mud bats provide, it also has some regenerative properties. One might even be happy to know that a facial, pedicure and manicure can cost you hundreds of dollars at the spa.

At the Tintamarre mud baths you can do your entire body for free including your hair.

The mud bath serves as an excellent exfoliation tool. Once washed off in the ocean, you WILL immediately notice that you’ve acquired silky smooth baby skin.

It’s also been said that the Tintamarre mud baths may help to restore a healthy immune system.
